Rehabilitation following Acquired Brain Damage We provide counselling and rehabilitation for people who have acquired brain damage through stroke, accident or disease, and their families. Through needs assessments, on-going counselling and psychological re-education, we give advice and support to clients and their families on their way towards healing and psychological well being. Initial assessments Initial assessments evaluate the clients' cognitive skills (such as memory and decision making abilities), and their emotional reaction to their head injury. An assessment report is provided which outlines their rehabilitation needs, sets preliminary goals, and provides costs. On-going rehabilitation We provide on-going rehabilitation programmes which include re-training of cognitive skills, and counselling and advice on dealing with the emotional problems resulting from head injury. We frequently work within multi-disciplinary teams and part of our role is to advise other health professionals on the management of clients and their families e.g. suggesting management strategies, noting of any secondary psychological problems arising from the head injury.
